Septarian Nodule is a fossil sedimentary rock composed of Aragonite (brown), Calcite (yellow) and Limestone (grey). Septaria refers to any concretion with internal cavities or cracks. Septarian was formed around 50 to 70 million years ago during Earths Cretaceous Period. Volcanic eruptions produced sediments that attracted small sealife. Sediments enriched with sealife chemical composition formed noduler or mud balls. When the oceans receded, the mud balls dried out and cracks formed internally. The chemicals from the sealife crystallized and formed aragonite crusts and druzy calcite crystals.
